Raw Rare Medium Well Done Steak

Today's Lesson: Raw, Rare, Medium & Well Done

I know its a little late now that 'Steak & Blowjob' day is over but the situation you find yourself in today's lesson involves gastronomy

Texture & look
Whether you're at a BBQ or cooking for friends, if they all ask for their steak differently then you might struggle. Say the menu for the evening is steak but everyone's being a little picky, you like yours rare, your significant other prefers medium rare & your uncouth guests think that they want it well done.

The technique shown in the image is used by chefs & cooks alike. Start off with a hot pan, a little oil, per-seasoned slabs of meat & sealed the steak on both sides by turing it in the pan.

Periodically test the texture & feel of the meat with your finger during cooking, the resistance you receive can tell you at what stage it is at.

For example: feel the texture of the muscle in your hand below your thumb, as show in the images. Touch your hand with your fingers relaxed & out stretched, if your steak feels similar then is Raw.

Now touch your first finger & thumb together & touch the muscle, if your steak offers a little more resistance then its approaching rare.

Continue down, touching each finger together, all the way through to your little finger. When you touch your little finger the muscle is tense & if your steak is similar in texture then it well done.

TODAY'S LESSON: Tech Savvy Presentation Skills

So you know the drill by now ......... & 'scene' :

You've been waiting for the opportunity so show off your mad skills & make a name for yourself, final you're asked to create a presentation that could make or break you at the company.

Preparations complete, prompt cards memorised & power point presentation ready & waiting.

Just a final pointer that can be the difference between looking tech. savvy or computer illiterate
. When you come to saving your PowerPoint presentation use .pps instead of .ppt to make your document directly start the show when opened.

Tips

When using an image in your presentations, you might want to combine two images & remove the background of the top layer to produce a better ascetic feel.

(Select image > Format > Colour > Set Transparent Colour)- Check out the video below for a step by step guide.

In PowerPoint 2010 you can even edit the image boundary to remove any unwanted edges or overlaps not picked up by the automatic tool. It's no Photoshop but quick, easy & straightforward.

Life Lessons: 2 - Good egg or bad

Today's Lesson: Eggs

These are in no particular order by the way. Scenario, you buy a new pack of eggs from a generic supermarket brand. When you get home there are a few left over from the last pack so you put them together.

When you come to use them you now have no idea which are in date .... which are about to go out of date .... & which are past their best.

The answer is simple, place the eggs in cold / room temperature water & watch out for the following:

  • Fresh eggs will sink to the bottom of the bowl and probably lie on their sides.
  • Slightly older eggs (about one week) will lie on the bottom with the largest tip facing down & smallest tip up towards the surface (or just in between that & flat on its side).
  • If the egg balances on its smallest tip, with the large tip reaching for the top, it's probably close to three weeks old.
  • Eggs that float at the surface are off and should not be consumed

Tips

Eggs don't need to be stored in the fridge to make them last longer, instead storing them on the kitchen surface is just as hygienic. So liberate the fridge space & keep them in the kitchen.

Today's Lesson: Google History

Here is the situation, So your friends are over at your house & need to borrow your laptop, they open your browser & search innocently.

Google history comes up …… cringe ….. Get ready for a lifetime full of jokes.

To delete those embarrassing Google suggestions just use arrow keys to select the suggestion, then hit Shift + Delete to erase them in Firefox & Chrome.

Tips

Alternatively incognito mode in Google chrome is a way of searching without saving any history or search / web page history, just click Ctrl+Shift+N (windows) or Cmd+Shift+N (mac)
Lesson learnt, have fun out there & check out next weeks life lesson.
