Introduction
First post on my blog & my most recent weekend project that has to have been accomplished in the shortest time ever. Lets start off with the main reason I decided to Jailbreak my apple tv 2nd generation (ATV2), it was actually by random chance I stumbled upon a brand new ATV2 on ebay pre-hacked with a list of attributes that i had just never heard of: XBMC, Plex, Nitro & the list goes on.
Im the first to admit i initially bought my ATV2 to stream music but instead it has been gathering dust since I bought it. Now it has been replaced by an amazing surround sound i was given for my birthday.
So what benefits could this bring me & why should bother hacking this perfectly functional piece of apple technology?

Well to start with its easy, it cant even be described as hacking, more of a list of basic instructions that any one can do. The only hardware you need is:
- Some spare time.
The advantages once it has been jailbroken are just the variety of different programs that give you access to library's of 1000's of TV shows & HD movies including Live Sports channels & Premiership football matches.

Untethered - Allows all settings to be saved on to the ATV2 even if disconnected from a power source.

The Jailbreak Guide Itself:
Once the hardware listed above has been sourced, the next step is to download the software required to flash the ATV2. The software i used to Jailbreak the ATV2 is called 'SeasOnPass', this provides a platform to access the features like Live TV or movies on web browsers, through support for HTML5 video sites, this in turn allows you to stream media direct to the ATV2 and more.Note:
Tethered - requires the ATV2 to always be connected to a power source once SeasOnPass is installed, if the power source were to be disconnected the ATV2 would loose all jailbroken features & would have to be installed from scratch again.Untethered - Allows all settings to be saved on to the ATV2 even if disconnected from a power source.
Step 1
Download & unzip SesOnPass from the appropriate links below - It's FREE.Links:
Step 2
If you have your TV ATV2 running put it to sleep through the settings menu. Once off unplug all cables from the ATV 2 (including power cable.
Step 3
Launch the Seas0nPass application that you previously downloaded in the first step. Once launched you will see the following in Windows:

Using the Micro USB cable, plug the ATV 2 into your computer only. Once plugged in the lights at the front of the device will slowly flash,
If not try unplugging the Micro USB Cable, connecting the power supply to the device for ten seconds, then removing the power supple and replugging the Micro USB Cable in before continuing.
Step 5
Initiate the software by either clicking the "Create IPSW" or using the Right-Click on the “Create IPSW” button and choosing a firmware version from the list.
Step 6
Allow this installation to install all components, this can take up to 5-10minutes, then when prompted, press and hold both the “MENU” and
“PLAY/PAUSE” buttons on your remote control at the same time untill the front of the device flashes, (this can take between 7-30 seconds) in order to enter DFU mode. You will see the following in Windows:

Step 7
Wait for the installation to complete, do not remove the USB cable or press any other buttons. It is complete when you see the “Firmware restore
successful!” notice displayed within the Seas0nPass application window. Then click the “Done” or "OK" button. You will see the following in Windows:

Step 8
Now connect the ATV2 up as you normally would & turn your television on. Select your preferred language & select your Wireless network & enter your internet security key or Wired Ethernet users can skip this step.
Step 9
When asked to share information with Apple choose the “No Thanks” option as this will affect the software in the future.
Step 10
To check if the whole installation was sucessfull, find the “Settings” icon on the menu displays the “FC”
logo on. If it is grey, you’ll unfortunately need to start over from the

Congratulations on your first experience into Jailbreaking software, did you expect it to be that easy?
